Faith Enrichment
Summer Faith Enrichment - Don’t take a vacation
from church! Find out just how relaxing and enjoyable summer Sundays can
be when you share them with friends around the words of Life: God’s
Good News!
For Children: Live Big Pre-School with Courtney Boydston
in the Cherub Room.
Live Big Elementary with Linda Farls and Michele Beaugrand
in the Sky High Storyteller’s Tree House (Room 11):
Learn about some of the most exciting stories in the Bible. Do you know
about the time that Elijah showed that God was real while the idols were
just lumps of wood or clay? He called down fire from heaven to prove it!
Wow! Talk about Bible fireworks! Come join us for a summer full of exciting
stories and fun music and movement. There might even be some funky science
or creative crafts along the way. Don’t miss it!
Jr. High Youth in the Undersea Room of the Youth House
with Stacy Keller and Mike Smith.
Sr.High Youth in the Youth Club Room of the Youth House
with Cindy Bottomley and Dave Hertzler. .
Confronting the Controversies: Do you ever wonder how
Christians on opposite sides of controversial issues can both be making
their arguments from the same Bible? Does it ever embarrass you when you
see Christians on TV yelling, accusing one another, or leaving churches
over those issues? We hope so! In the Presbyterian Church we don’t
hide or run away from the tough issues-we learn about them, we study what
the Bible has to say, and we try to listen to and honestly discuss with
one another in an attempt to understand one another’s questions
and views before coming to our own conclusions through thought and prayer.
As citizens of this world and of this nati on we have an obligation to
think these issues through. At MIPC you won’t be told what to believe
but you will have a chance to ask questions and learn how to both listen
and share without making anyone mad. Topics: Homosexuality, Abortion,
Creation and Evolution, Prayer in Schools, the Separation of Church and
State, Euthanasia and the Death Penalty. See the Youth Newsletter for
specific dates. Discussions will be Biblically based and age-appropriate.
The Visual Bible: The Gospel of Matthew
Bring your cup of coffee and fellowship goodies to the Music Activity
Room, sit back and be awed by meeting the kindest, wisest, most compassionate
Jesus on the big screen. Each Sunday we will watch 20-30 minutes and take
a little time for any discussion or questions we may have. See the Bible
in a new way: a way that will touch your heart as well as your mind.
“Yes, Lord, I have sinned. But I have several excellent
excuses!” Does this sound like your kind of discussion?!
We all find ways to try to minimize the mistakes we’ve made. Humor
can help us relax, be honest and think about the sins that keep tripping
us up. If we can’t laugh about our mistakes we are likely to hide
them and repeat them. Come watch as Dr. James Moore gives us good advice
and an opportunity to solve or even avoid some of the temptations and
snares that life can throw at us! Topics: The Sin of Over Reacting, The
Sin of Presumptuousness, The Sin of Losing Our Spiritual Balance, Redemption
and (thank you, Jesus) GRACE! Class meets in the Session Room.
Brown Bag Book Bunch will continue through June as we
start to enjoy Marjorie Thompson’s book Soul Feast: The Invitation
to the Christian Spiritual Life It is not too late to join us. Bring your
lunch & your Bible and get ready to say Yum and Ahhhhhhhhhhh!! See
Pastor Al’s article for more information. (Wednesday at noon).
“Human beings are innately religious. We harbor a bedrock desire
for a transcendent wellspring of meaning and purpose in life. While sociologists
may attribute the universal human religious impulse to psycho-social need,
people of faith believe that we are made for relationship with God. Therefore,
until that relationship is sought and found, there will always be an existential
emptiness at the core of our being. Centuries ago Saint Augustine confessed
to God, “You have made us f or yourself, and our heart is restless
until it rests is you.’”
