Vacation Bible School

Rainforest Adventure 2008 was a great success!

THANK YOU to all the volunteers, adults and teens, and to the persons loaning decorations for our rainforest. We had a great time learning about the bible, animals, and life. Also thanks to all the children for coming. Everything was great.

Vacation Bible School Mission Project
: This year’s mission focus was on children and families that have been displaced from their homes in the rainforest or that live near the rainforest and are trying to protect it. Our favorite Montreat performer, David LaMotte and his wife, Peg started a charity to support the very schools outside of Antigua, Guatemala that the Mahans and Scheuermanns will be visiting in July! They will bring our donations, cards, pictures and letters directly to those children and bring back pictures! What a wonderful connection between our church, Montreat, and the mission field! Christian Education:

Kindermusik at MIPC

This summer Kids Klub Mom and Kindermusik leader, Kelly Louviere, will bring a special program to MIPC on Friday mornings in June and July (see dates below). Children 2-6, with or without their parents, are welcome to enjoy learning about Music and Creatures of the Ocean. Kelly will teach 2’s and 3’s from 10:00-10:45 and 4-6 year olds from 11 AM-11:45 in the Music Activity Room. Kindermusik is an early enrichment opportunity that gives parents and kids delightful ways to engage in musical play together. The $30 registration fee includes an at-home kit for extending what is learned in the class. Each Session is $10 ($7 for children already enrolled in MIPC’s Child Care Center.) Registration forms and a sample Take Home packet are in the church office. Summer Bible Story Library Contest for Kids
Have you heard about our wonderful new collection of animated Bible Stories for kids and families on DVD? This summer your MIPC library is sponsoring a contest! Pick up a JAM Bible Story card (Jesus and Me!) from the library cart. Have a grown up sign off every time you check out and watch one of our Bible Story DVD's. When you have watched every Old Testament or New Testament story you can turn in your card for a special prize! The Grand Prize is for those who watch the whole series! Parents who watch WITH their kids will be eligible for a prize too - just put a star by your signature on the card. Completed cards can be turned in anytime before August 17th - the Sunday before school starts. Special recognition to our winners will be given to our winner s during a Children’s Church Party on August 24th.

Come take a look at our entire library collection in the church office-we have lots of great books and videos to enjoy and to be a support to you in your Christian walk and life! Librarian: Cheryl Mahan assisted by Cordelia Scheuermann.

At Home Volunteer Opportunity
Can you repair and/or launder and press a few costumes over the summer? Some of our Kids Klub children’s costumes have ripped seams under the arms or at the back. If you can help by fixing a few up please take what you can from the box in front of the CE office and return them to Cordelia before school starts in August.

Mission Team Recital & English High Tea June 29th!

Ladies - get out your hats. Gentlemen: pull out the shoe polish. You are cordially invited to set aside some time for beauty, culture, fine music and delicate desserts for a terrific cause. Join us at 3 PM Sunday afternoon, June 29th, when members of our Mission Team and friends will present a concert of joyful and exciting classical music for String Quartet, solo violin, solo piano and more followed by a Florida style high English Tea. Kay is planning for delicate desserts, petit fours, finger sandwiches, Chai Latte & Earl Grey Sparkling punches.
Our musicians, several of whom are BSYO musicians will be accompanied by our own Dr. Arleigh Sharpe as well as advanced piano students of Dr. Sharpe and advanced students of Orlando Philharmonic and former BSO Concert mistress violinist Amy Jevitt. This will be a very fine and enjoyable afternoon. Please join us. A voluntary opportunity to make a donation to support the mission trip will be offered as you leave. If you would like to help with decorating the Activity Room, Awning Patio and Memorial Garden or to help with food please contact Kay Brown Hietpas.

Narnia: Prince Caspian-Have you taken your kids yet?
Could you use some help in showing your kids the Gospel message in the Narnia films? MIPC’s Christian Ed ministry has some free pamphlets that you can use with your family to talk about the Gospel themes in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and in Prince Caspian. These pamphlets would be a great way to start family devotionals. Consider reading one page at the dinner table each night as a terrific conversation starter. You will be blessed!

Now that summer is here - it is the perfect time to take a break from the every day hustle and bustle and relax!!! A great way to do that is to join us for YOGA on Monday evenings at 5:30 pm in the Activities Room. Several of our church members have been participating for many years - the class is for all ages and all skill levels. If you’d like more information, please call Jan Seals, 632-5773!!
