Conscious Discipline with Dr. Gail Buchanan. A class on Dr. Becky Bailey’s “Brain Smart” insights for adults, for parenting and for business leaders. Conscious Discipline is a comprehensive management program and a social-emotional curriculum. It is based on current brain research, child development information, and developmentally appropriate practices. Conscious Discipline has been specifically designed to make changes in the lives of adults first. The adults, in turn, change the lives of children. Each member of the family—both adult and child—learns the skills needed to successfully manage life tasks such as learning, forming relationships, communicating effectively, being sensitive to others’ needs and getting along with others. Conscious Discipline® empowers adults with the Seven Powers for Self Control from which emerge the Seven Basic Skills of Discipline. These skills change how adults respond to conflict in such a way as to facilitate the development of the frontal lobes in children by constructively transforming conflicts into teaching moments. Through the Powers and Skills, adults stay in control of themselves and promote permanent behavior changes in both adults and children. The paradigm of change is from a traditional compliance model of discipline, relying on lower brain center approaches of threat and force, to a relationship-based community model that relies on higher-order thinking skills. No Charge. Invite your friends! Room14 upstairs, 6:30-8 PM.

Renovations of the Heart with Pastor Al. Explore what it means to develop the character of Christ. Wouldn’t that be incredible? Enter into a journey of transformation. This study was written and filmed by Dallas Willard who has been called “America’s Answer to C. S. Lewis.” Wow! Both he and Lewis established impressive academic reputations at respected secular institutions only to have them dwarfed by the impact of their Christian writings. Both Willard and Lewis provide such a fresh and appealing look at the teachings of Christ and the glorious possibilities of life in His kingdom that it makes even seasoned Christians, pastors and professors long to go “further up and further in” as Lewis said.
This study will invite us to reorganize our lives in such a way as to walk so closely with Him that it becomes easy to know His mind and hear His voice-easy? Wow! Richard Foster, author of the acclaimed “Celebration of Discipline” places the works and person of Dallas in the same company as Bonhoeffer, Wesley, Calvin, Luther and Teresa of Avila. How wonderful it is that through the medium of film so many more Christians cam be touched by such wisdom and shared love. Join us! Fellowship Hall 6:30-7:30
