Worship Services

The heart of our life as a faith community is worship. It is the expression of our praise and thanksgiving to God, the affirmation of our faith in Jesus Christ and the celebration of God’s Spirit in our midst. At Merritt Island Presbyterian Church, worship is designed to draw us into a deeper awareness of God’s presence and God’s desire to change and challenge our lives.

8:45 am Service

This service is led musically by the WLT-Worship Leadership Team and features contemporary Christian music and hymns with a variety of instruments and styles. This service has much of the same content as the later service, yet is more informal.  Children 4 years through 4th grade are invited to leave mid-service to attend Children’s Church, where they will hear a story based on the day’s scripture passage and/or lectionary. Children 3 years and younger are welcome in our  Cherub Room. Family members may also choose to sit in our soundproof “Cherub Room” adjacent to the Sanctuary with a live feed on the TV.  Headsets are available at this service for the hearing impaired and large print bulletins are also available.

11:00 am Service

This service reflects our rich heritage in reformed worship.  The liturgies are written each week, and are fresh and relevant to our daily lives.  We experience sacred music of all styles, periods and cultures.  Handbells enhance worship regularly, and our pipe organ lends a mighty support for congregational singing.  The Chancel Choir leads us in singing hymns and presenting great choral anthems.   Children 4 years through 4th grade are invited to leave mid-service to the Children’s Church, where they will hear a story based on the day’s scripture passage and/or lectionary.  Children 3 years and younger are welcome in our Cherub Room. Children In Worship

Relax!  Your family is important here!

  • It is hard for children to sit still for long.  They have short attention spans, but they will absorb bits and pieces of the worship service.
  • You may wish to pick up the Children's Worship bulletins, crayons and coloring pages/stories in the blue plastic "Children's Worship packets" box in the Narthex.

The Lord's Supper-Communion

"I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty." John 6:35

The Lord's Supper is the sacrament based on Jesus' words and actions at His last meal with the Apostles. (The Jewish Passover Meal)

The Lord's Supper celebrates the Power of God's Love.

  • It commemorates Jesus' perfect sacrifice on our behalf
  • It renews our fellowship with other Christians
  • It enables us to experience the saving power of God's love through Christ
  • It nourishes our faith in the deepest way possible

A note about our communion services:  Due to the risk of contagions with H1N1 flu, etc. we will serve communion at the table with each communicant coming to receive the sacrament.  (No individual loaves, no intinction).  Hopefully this will provide a holy and healthy way to observe the Lord’s sacrifice for us.
