Hands-on Mission Trip 2010
“Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.” Philippians 2:4. Seventeen people from MIPC, Palm Bay Presbyterian Church, and the Baltimore area formed a team to venture to Merida, Mexico from 6-12 June to work with our Mexican neighbors to construct a building which would later house a much needed water purification facility. Mixing and carrying concrete by hand in 100 degree temperatures was hard work, but working side by side our brothers and sisters in Christ was, indeed, inspiring. We served them by providing much needed additional labor while they served us by quietly preparing meals and providing much needed cool refreshments. All of us (Mexicans and Americans) were looking to the interests of others and hardly noticed the hot weather and sore muscles. In the evening, the team provided many crafts for a vacation Bible school which was well attended by more than 70 children. Smiles (ours and the Mexicans) spoke volumes about just how much the language of the love of Jesus can accomplish in any environment. The language of love transcends any language difficulties between countries. Keep on the lookout for more information regarding when pictures of the trip will be shown to the congregation.
An Opportunity to be a Missionary in Your Own Home
Christmas International House is seeking homes where the Christmas season can be shared with an international student who is alone and unable to be with his/her family during this special time of year. Many of these students have not been introduced to Christianity. However, through your gift of friendship and hospitality, you can provide a place where you can show them what it means to be a believer in Christ. Last year, 280 international students in 28 cities and towns were shown that love. Unfortunately 100 students were turned away for the lack of Christian hosts. If you would like more details about this mission opportunity, please visit the Christmas International House website at www.christmasih.org. or contact Bob Hill. And Speaking of Christmas . . . You might want to consider the purchase of a PCUSA 2011 Mission Yearbook for those on your Christmas lists who already have everything. The Yearbook is a daily devotional with stories, lectionary readings and prayer guides with a Mission focus. The cost is $10.00 more or less, depending on the number purchased. The order will be placed by September 1st to ensure availability. Contact the church office to place your order. Read more...
